Many parents bemoan the fact that there are very few jobs available that are really suitable for parents. In most cases, even if your children are at school, before and after school care is required as the commencement and finishing times for most jobs don't conform to school hours.

Some employers, however, do understand that raising a family is a big contribution to society and will be flexible with part-time hours to suit school times or childcare arrangements. With labour shortages predicted in the years to come, hopefully this will increase in the future.
 
TIPS FOR WOKING PARENTS

  • Make sure your carer and school have up to date contact telephone numbers for you at all times. There is nothing worse at a school than trying to contact the parent of a sick or injured child and finding that the number is out of date. Even if your child knows your telephone number you must notify the school.
  • Have lunches and other items for school or daycare prepared the night before.
  • Make sure your child and their carer/teacher knows who is picking them up each day.
  • If you have very young children, get them ready, washed, clean, etc and get yourself ready but put your work clothes on last. Yes, they are sure to put their grimy hands on your only washed/ironed shirt at the very last minute!
