The tranquil waters of Sanctuary Cove are set to take on a crimson glow as the Gold Coast’s premier lifestyle destination erupts with traditional festivities including lion dancing, entertainment and lively drumming to herald the Chinese New Year 2016.

The Docks will be awash with gold and red – colours signifying fortune and prosperity in Chinese culture – as the Marine Village hosts a fun filled three-day festival to salute the arrival of the Year of the Monkey.

From Friday 12 February to Sunday 14 February 2016, families are invited to join in the free spectacle of live entertainment taking place in the precinct, alongside authentic cuisine and Asian-inspired workshops for all ages.

A program of culturally rich events will include daily lion dancing and Chinese entertainment, along with traditional Chinese activities presented by theTourism Confucius Institute at Griffith University.

Festivities kick off on Friday 12 February with lion dancing from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, with celebrations continuing over the weekend including traditional Chinese entertainment from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, and lion dancing displays daily from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

Large crowds are expected to descend on the Marine Village during the event, which also features free kids’ activities, including traditional Chinese crafts and workshops from 11am to 3pm Saturday, along with a jumping castle, face painting and more, daily from 11am to 3pm.
