Queensland Museum

The always popular Queensland Museum is an amazing resource that incorporates many aspects of cultural heritage, science achievements and natural history for Gold Coast Kids to explore. Located at Southbank in South Brisbane, the museum is approximately one hour’s drive north from Surfers Paradise. An innovative early childhood program and always entertaining holiday activities provide a fantastic opportunity for Gold Coast Kids to have fun whilst they learn.

‘What’s Inside?’ at the Queensland Museum

What’s Inside? Is a discovery based activity held most weekday mornings at the Queensland Museum. Designed for children aged 3 – 8 years and located within the museum’s exhibition spaces, Gold Coast Kids can get hands-on with objects and puppets, play and engage in activities and encounter some great books and games. Some of the units include Life in the Outback, Dinosaurs, Marine Reptiles and Discover Queensland.

Families are encouraged to discover the entire Queensland Museum with activities such as ‘Find Magil’ in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultures Centre, which help Gold Coast Kids explore and learn about other cultures. ‘Creature Feature’ in the Discovery Centre presents live stick insects to for children to identify and also includes snakes, birds, mammals, fish and spiders.

Facilities at the Queensland Museum

Aiming to be completely accessible to all visitors, the Queensland Museum provides parking spaces and lifts for people with a disability on the lower level of the car park. All entrances to the museum are accessible, with wheelchair accessible toilets located on all levels of the museum also.  Areas for wheelchairs and prams are set allocated at all of Queensland Museum’s events and activities, including lectures, workshops and shows. Free wireless internet is offered to all visitors daily.

For some time out, there is plenty of seating and quiet areas that are located both inside and around the vicinity of the Queensland Museum. The museum’s Collectors Café provides a good range of menu options, including healthy selections and children’s meals designed to complement the current exhibitions taking place.  As it is located in the Southbank Parklands precinct, there is a multitude of eating options within walking distance of the museum.
