Iceland Bundall

Local reviewer Kim, with her husband and 2 children, tested out and reviewed Iceland Bundall for you, the Gold Coast Kids Community. This is what Kim thought:

Another rainy weekend meant that recently my hubby and I were looking for something different to do with the family to entertain the kids; we really wanted to get them out and about with something active as we were all suffering a little from cabin fever!  We decided to take our two children aged three and nearly five ice skating at the newly reopened Gold Coast Iceland. They run casual sessions for ice skaters of all ages that run for an hour and a half, which was a good amount of time for us and it meant we had something lively and fun to do for the afternoon.  It was easy to find and there was ample parking which was great for a Saturday afternoon.

Surprisingly we joined a queue that moved very quickly inside and we were given our skates immediately; I love the fact that we didn’t have to wait long!  Our two have been ice skating before but this was the first time they got to wear their own ice skates and not just the skating attachment to their shoes. They loved the novelty of the cold temperature and couldn’t wait to get out on the ice.  The staff were very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. If you are concerned about bumps and bruises there are helmets as well as clear safety rules to help keep your little ones safe. It was clear that it did not matter whether you had skated for years or were there for the first time, the staff were more than happy to give us tips and pointers to help our two littlies start to skate around which we appreciated. While we can keep our balance most of the time, we are by no means graceful on the ice.

We helped our kids around the rink several times and although the hour and a half session went quickly it was more than enough time to let them enjoy plenty of ice skating. They had so much fun!! It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves as they skated (or wobbled!) around the rink. The music and lighting really added to the atmosphere and if you ask the staff they will happily run some games on the rink as well. My daughter now tells me she is going to skate every day.

The facilities include everything you need with toilets, a snack bar serving food and drinks (coffee is on my essentials list!) to warm you up and even a separate heated room where you can thaw out if anyone starts to get too cold. This room has a large clear window so you don’t miss out on any of the action.

If you have older children you can take them along and watch and you only pay for those who are skating which is great! Gold Coast Iceland also offer ice skating lessons, ice hockey and kids parties but a casual visit was perfect for us. It was a great afternoon and such a joy to be able to do something active on a rainy weekend, we got rid of our cabin fever and we made some wonderful memories as a family.
