Arty Kids | Five Affordable Ways to Get Creative and Cultural on The Gold Coast

Got a buddy baby artist?  The Gold Coast has a burgeoning art, drama and music scene for kids and young adults.  In fact The Gold Coast is now the second biggest per-capita hub for people working in arts – only Sydney has a bigger per capita arts scene!  The Gold Coast has plenty of a affordable ways to get your child active and arty with community and arts centres providing all sorts of good stuff! It’s a perfect time to introduce your child to a little art and culture on the coast.  Encourage that artist streak and do something a bit different with your Gold Coast Kid!

The Arts Centre Gold Coast Youth Program – Drama and Dance

The Arts Centre Gold Coast has a comprehensive selection of kids and young adult attractions and performances throughout the year.   Friends of the centre also offer school holiday programs for older kids which focus on art music drama and dance skills.

Royal Queensland Arts Society – Visual Arts

Royal Queensland Arts Society in Broadbeach offers ten week “art academies” specialising in painting and drawing to older children.  The classes cover the basics and help kids to understand and appreciate art.  Once your child is a member, they’ll love the child friendly exhibits and the chance to participate in various artistic events.

Kirra Hill Community and Cultural Centre – Crafts

Jellurgal Cultural Centre – Aboriginal Art and Music

Jellurgal Cultural Centre is a great place to visit with kids interested in Indigenous culture.   Entry is free and kids will be able to watch locals create traditional art pieces as well as view artefacts from the local Indigenous people.  Jellurgal hosts daily shows and demonstrations but best of all, children can book in for didgeridoo lessons!

Oxenford and Coomera Youth Centres – Dance

There are plenty of good Council run youth centres on the Gold Coast but Oxenford and Coomera run a diverse and exciting selection of dance classes for kids of all ages. From tiny tots tap to big kid hip-hop, cheerleading to senior ballet, Oxenford and Coomera Youth Centres host not one but two dance school providers.  There’s even cooking lessons for kids and adult fitness classes with creative childminding provided!

Introducing your Gold Coast kid to arts and cultural activities not only improves co-ordination and fine motor skills but gives them a creative outlet for life.  There has never been a better time to be arty on the Gold Coast!
